1st day: 5th October, 2008 Cool and windy
It finally took 15 hours to fly from Hong Kong to Canada. I didn’t sleep at all throughout the flight. I made a new friend who is one of our classmates, as well as one of our class representatives. His name is Philip. We chatted about our teaching experience and our purpose of joining this programme. He is a nice guy and he likes to take good care of his classmates. When the planed landed, it was not as cold as I expected. It is pretty cool and windy. I like this kind of weather very much. I think Hong Kong is too humid and hot. I took the cab with Yvonne, Mabel, Candy, Cydia and another Peggy. They are all very nice and friendly. I was curious and excited and I wanted to see my homestay family and the house as soon as possible. Lastly, I arrived at the house. My host mum, Sandra, came and opened the door to welcome me. It was 8:30 p.m. at that time. I was really LATE. She said that was OK and she told me her daughter, Jessica, and her friends came and visited her and had supper together. Jessica was kind as she helped me to take my luggage to my room which is in the basement. Sandra took me to the bedroom and showed me everything. The room is fine with a bench, a TV set, a heater, a working desk, a drawer, a chair and a double bed. There is Japanese boy who is living in the basement too. He is Sandra’s sister's homestay student. He stayed here because the basement of Sandra's sister's house was flooded. So he will leave this house and return to that house soon. Sandra gave me some pasta and juice for dinner. I talked to Takashi while I was eating. He is a polite and hardworking student. He wanted to learn English well so that he can speak to his clients. We talked a lot about learning English in Japan and Hong Kong. Then, I went to take a shower at 9:30 p.m. After that, I took out my notebook computer and wanted to try to plug the plug into the socket. Surprisingly, they are all 3-leg sockets instead of 2-leg. I was told in Hong Kong that we have to take 2-leg adapter to Canada if we want to use our electronic appliances. I asked Takashi to see if he could help me. However, he said Japan's plugs and sockets are the same as those in Canada. Anyway, I decided to buy some adapters tomorrow. Takashi promised me that he will take me to the subway station tomorrow and showed me the way to York. I returned to my room afterwards and unpacked my things. I went to bed at 11:30 p.m. but actually I was not really tired.
